2010 NAS Nationals Video Clips

Event #1: 600# Yoke Walk & 250# Sandbag Carry

Event #2: 150# Circus DB Clean & Press

Event #3: Car Deadlift for Reps

Event #4: 200# Axle Clean & Press for Reps

Event #5: 230/250# Keg Carry & 500# Sled Drag

Event #6: 500# Farmer's Frame Carry

Event #7: 230/260/300/330/360# Atlas Stones

Final Points/Place: 44 Points/2nd Place

*Very, very pleased with my performance...I couldn't
be more proud of what I accomplished in the 2 days.
I had a few mistakes the 1st day with the dropped sandbag
& just not getting a rep on the circus dumbbell. Things happen
in a competition. I knew going into the 2nd day I had to be
perfect if I wanted to still win. I was down 10 points which is a lot
for the number of competitors we had. I felt more confident in
the events for the final day. I trained my butt off with the axle
clean & press...I wanted to totally dominate & stand out from the
rest of the competitors. I felt my conditioning was top notch & the
best out of all of the competitors & it showed in the keg carry & sled
drag. I even slipped & lost my lead & still pulled away with the victory.
I didn't take too long to recover from the event...I was all ready for the
next one if I had to go that minute. The farmer's was a sprint for the
finish & I knew I had to jet! The atlas stones was last & a nice ending
to a contest, I wanted to get the 300# stone & felt really good about it.
220 & 260 was easy & the 300# stone was an issue. The picks were
hella easy with the tacky but I didn't have a good stance to generate
power from my legs & hips...rookie mistake. I did pick it up 3 times
with no issues. Next year I'm getting the 300,330 & 360# stone at
175 pounds! I had tons of fun, met some cool people & won some
cash...what a great weekend!! Be BeastMode...Be Relentless...see
you next year at Nationals!

I think I need to work on clean pulls & cleans

2010 WA Strongest Apple Pics

LW 175# Division-1st Place

Keg Load to 50" Platform(180,200,220,250#)

100ft Yoke Walk(665#)

100 ft Tire Flip(700#)

200 ft Farmer's Walk(240# each)

Axle Press For Reps(209#)

2010 WA Strongest Apple-175 lb LW, 1st Place

Event #2: 700# Tire Flip 100ft-72'2"(10 flips), 1st Place

Event #3 209# Axle Press For Reps-7 reps, 1st Place

Event #4: 240# Farmer's Walk 200ft-34.19, 1st Place

*Overall 1st place out of 8 competitors. First time doing the 665# Yoke Walk, I ended up getting 55'4.5" getting 2nd place. The last event was the keg load, I only got the 180# and 200# kegs. I couldn't get that 220# keg up...too freakin heavy. My right quad was bugging me the whole time after the tire flip, I had a bad bruise weeks prior. I also dropped the axle bar on my knee adding to the already bad bruise. This was a really fun and challenging contest, all the competitors were tough and I look forward to doing it again next year.

Shut Up & Train!

Very corny but true, there's no time to bullshit. We have around 2 months to prepare for June 12th, WA Strongest Apple. Me & Sniper have our work cut out for us. We haven't hit the tire in months, kegs, farmer's walk use to be a strong point & now its weak. They're adding the Yoke walk in the contest, I've never hit that before. I heard it kills your lower back & core. Axle press requires one clean with as many presses as you can. Last year you had to clean & press each time. That should be better this year but I feel my Olympic lifting has improved a lot since then. We need to work on our grip training: Rolling thunder, fat bar training & CoC grippers. Right now we're starting to get really specific to our training since we know our events. Wednesday & Saturday is our event days. Monday & Thursday is squat/deadlift days whether heavy or speed. Tuesday & Friday is Olympic lifting/Pressing using fat bar, log press, kegs, kettlebells & BTN variations. Again having heavy & speed days. During these days the following will be incorporated on various days: Box jumping, plyometrics, p-chain work, heavy core work, rehab/prehab, met-cons, upper back work, grip training & active recovery.
Event days will be short & sweet but very intense, focusing on our events for that day. During the other workouts they will serve as the foundation for our success. Speed squats & box jumps have a tremendous carry over to strongman events. Olympic lifting will be a big factor in our success with the pressing. Learning how to not muscle it but to use our whole body & be efficient. The Jerk will help us this contest. Fat bar/farmer's deadlifts & will be a staple as well. These will all aid in our grip training & prepare for events in the farmer's walk & axle press.
The new thing that I think will aid us in our performance will be our met-con & sled work. Prowler sprints, sled pulling, "Cindy" variations & other met-cons.
The goal is for the next 2 months is to shut the fuck up & train!! Fuck all the bullshit mane!!!

Stay Focused for Improvement

Regardless of what bullshit you deal with on a daily basis. Do these three things:
1. Stay focused on the prize- meaning whatever your trying to do as far as training(preparing for a contest, benching 315, running a faster mile, improving your fran time, etc).
2. Convert energy- meaning convert the energy it takes you to get mad or bothered and use it in a positive way.
3. Don't allow others weaknesses to affect you- meaning someone treats you a certain way that you dont like, just understand their not on your level and throw that shit out the window and continue to stay focused!

By doing these tips you will be spending more time on your training and goals rather on bullshit. Again dont let others affect you. There is haters wherever you go!
